About
The story
Captain and setter of Aoba Josai, Toru Oikawa played in middle school with Hajime Iwaizumi and Tobio Kageyama. Behind his theatrical demeanor lies a fierce competitor obsessed with Wakatoshi Ushijima, whom he has never managed to defeat. Aware that he lacks the instinctive talent of some rivals, Oikawa compensates with consistent effort, studying his opponents, and a masterful serve. Above all, he knows how to observe his teammates and deliver passes that fully exploit their strengths.
Oikawa leads Aoba Josai to victory against Karasuno in the Inter-High qualifiers but loses to Hinata and Kageyama's team during the Spring Tournament. Refusing to give up on his ambitions, he left for Argentina after high school, following in the footsteps of coach José Blanco, whom he had admired as a child. There, he continued his career, obtained Argentine citizenship, and became the setter for the national team. Years later, he thus found himself facing several former Japanese rivals on the Olympic stage.
