The story
At twenty-six, Takemichi Hanagaki leads a hopeless existence when he learns of the death of his former girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana. Pushed under a train, he finds himself twelve years in the past, back in middle school. A handshake with Naoto, Hinata's brother, allows him to travel between the two time periods. He then decides to transform the Tokyo Manji Gang in order to prevent the tragedy.
Often physically outmatched, Takemichi earns the respect of Mikey and his companions through his endurance and refusal to run away. He rises through the ranks of Toman, thwarts Kisaki's plans, and saves several lives, without initially managing to free Mikey from his darkness. Their final confrontation triggers one last leap back into childhood. Together, they rewrite history, save their loved ones, and finally reach the future where Takemichi marries Hinata.
