The story
A respected captain of the Fifth Division, Aizen concealed his experiments with Hollows and his desire to surpass the limits of the Shinigami for decades. Thanks to Kyoka Suigetsu's perfect hypnosis, he manipulated his allies, faked his death, and orchestrated Rukia's execution in order to retrieve the Hogyoku hidden within her.
Taking refuge in Hueco Mundo with Gin and Tosen, Aizen created an army of Arrancars and then invaded Karakura Town. His fusion with the Hogyoku allowed him to evolve beyond the Shinigami, but Ichigo surpassed him, and Urahara's seal immobilized him. Imprisoned in the Muken, he was temporarily freed during the war and helped deceive Yhwach.
