The story
Sephiroth is the most famous member of SOLDIER, admired for a power that no one seems able to match. Conceived as part of the Jenova Project, he received the cells of the alien entity before his birth. During a mission to Nibelheim, he discovers the experiments surrounding his creation, descends into madness, and sets fire to the village before being thrown into the Lifestream by Cloud.
From the Northern Cave, Sephiroth controls Jenova's cells and manipulates Cloud to obtain the Black Materia. His goal is to attract Meteor, damage the planet, and then absorb the gathered energy to heal it in order to become a god. He murders Aerith during her prayer, but Cloud and his companions eventually reach his refuge. Even defeated in its final forms, Sephiroth continues to haunt Cloud and still seeks to impose its will on the fate of the planet.
