About
The story
Mari Makinami Illustrious appears at Bethany Base as the provisional pilot of Evangelion Unit 05. She confronts the Third Angel with unusual boldness and seems to genuinely enjoy piloting. Later, upon arriving in Japan, she takes command of Unit 02 against the Tenth Angel and unleashes her Beast Mode despite the physical risks involved.
Fourteen years after the Near Third Impact, Mari belongs to Wille and pilots Evangelion Unit 08. She and Asuka form an essential duo in the fight against Nerv, maintaining their humor and confidence amidst the disaster. Her past remains intentionally shrouded in mystery, but her interactions with Fuyutsuki reveal that she was already familiar with Gendo and Yui's inner circle. During the final mission, she helps Shinji leave the Eva world and joins him in the reality he has chosen.
