The story
Kurapika is one of the last known survivors of the Kurta clan, massacred by the Phantom Troupe for their Scarlet Eyes. He takes the Hunter Exam to gain access to the information and networks necessary to recover the remains and pursue those responsible. Calm and methodical, he bonds with Gon, Killua, and Leorio, but his anger becomes difficult to control when the Troupe is mentioned. After the exam, he learns Nen and materializes five chains around his right hand, each designed for a specific function.
When his eyes turn scarlet, Kurapika transitions from Materialization to Specialization and can use Emperor Time, which grants him complete mastery of all Nen categories at a heavy price. Hired as a bodyguard for the Nostrade family, he defeats Uvogin, captures Chrollo, and temporarily neutralizes his Nen using his chains, which are subject to strict conditions. Becoming a member of the Zodiacs, Kurapika then boards the Black Whale as Prince Woble's protector, while continuing the search for the remaining Scarlet Eyes.
