The story
Kaworu Nagisa arrives at Nerv as the Fifth Child and Asuka's replacement. Calm, kind, and immediately close to Shinji, he shows him an affection the young pilot had never experienced so directly. Kaworu is, however, Tabris, the Seventeenth Angel, sent by Seele to reach the being hidden within Terminal Dogma.
Upon discovering Lilith in Adam's place, Kaworu abandons his plan to bring about humanity's annihilation and asks Shinji to kill him. In the Rebuild tetralogy, he awakens on the Moon, claiming to know Shinji, and then pilots Evangelion 13 with him. He attempts to repair the damage caused by the Near Third Impact, but Gendo's plan transforms him into the Thirteenth Angel, resulting in his death. His desire to make Shinji happy remains at the heart of each of his appearances.
