The story
Originally from Nibelheim, Cloud Strife dreams of joining SOLDIER and becoming a hero like Sephiroth. Having failed his recruitment, he serves Shinra as a simple foot soldier and accompanies Zack Fair on the mission that leads Sephiroth to destroy their village. Cloud manages to defeat him, but Hojo then captures him and exposes him for several years to mako and Jenova cells.
After Zack's escape and subsequent death, Cloud's shattered mind intertwines his own memories with those of his friend. Convinced he is a former SOLDIER First Class, he becomes a mercenary and joins Avalanche at Tifa's request. Their journey against Shinra and Sephiroth forces him to confront the truth. Aided by Tifa in the Lifestream, Cloud rebuilds his identity and then leads his companions against Meteor and the one who manipulates his injuries.
