The story
Daughter of Cetra Ifalna and Professor Gast, Aerith Gainsborough is the last known heir of a people capable of communicating with the Planet. After her mother's death, she grows up with Elmyra in the slums of Sector 5 and sells flowers despite the constant surveillance of the Turks. Her encounter with Cloud draws her into Avalanche's fight against Shinra.
Kidnapped to lead the party to the Promised Land, Aerith is freed by Cloud and his allies and leaves Midgar with them. She realizes that her prayer and the White Materia can summon the Holy, the only power capable of stopping Meteor. Sephiroth kills her in the City of the Ancients before she can rejoin the group, but her will remains in the Lifestream. The Holy and the planet's energy finally answer her call.
